My Progress as a Writer Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

My Progress as a Writer - Personal Statement Example For instance, when I wrote essays such as â€Å"A Self Appreciation: My Personal Stereo† and â€Å"The Hoax in Wal-Mart† that require me to present a discussion in narrative form, I was able express myself more clearly in English. I consulted the dictionary and explored different words to describe myself better. However, if there is one aspect of my writing that needs to be improved, it would be developing my grammar. I find difficulty in making long and complex sentences when I wrote â€Å"File-Sharing† essay, I realized that I needed to incorporate the comments noted; but using these comments were difficult for me since I did not know that how to effectively apply what was specifically required. So what I have to learn and acknowledge as an important part of writing is the skill in editing and revising because I know that when I write, the initial draft will not be immediately perfect. Honestly, I get confused with tenses, especially when I started writing lett ers in reflective essay. With constant practice, I believe that I will improve and build better sentences, as required. Another important point noted is that I know that the flow of my writing is not as smooth as I want it to be. There will be times when transition is difficult for me. That is why the connection of the sentences of the paragraphs is not always as easy; unlike when it is professionally written. In addition, I realized that I need to be more observant of the words I use. For example, upon reviewing my first essay, I recognized that I used the word ‘cost’ in one particular sentence three times: â€Å"It doesn’t cost that costly like the high end branded stereo system, but for a person like me, it didn’t cost any cheap either.† Within the progress of the course, this mistake was eventually prevented and I realized the need to proofread my work during finalization prior to submission. What I like best in some of my writings is the fact t hat I was able to express myself clearly. In fact, the highlight of the reflective essay is that it was composed and thought of entirely by me. Because of this writing assignment, I was able to relate own my experiences and enabled other people to know me better. In the essay, I wrote about my life, friends, and family. I also wrote about my experiences as an international student studying in an English-speaking society. I expressed how all these were able to influence my life now in the United States. In the future, I would like to develop more effective transition of sentences and paragraphs which I still perceive as difficult. I hope that my ideas are good enough that any reader would understand it and identify with it. I believe that my skill in writing English is fair because I work hard to master the language. Based on the comments of my teachers, there are only minor skills to be improved in my writing such as tenses and constructing complex sentences. But when it comes to ex pressing my ideas, I can basically communicate my ideas well in English. In the future I would want to be able to write more scholarly papers. I wish to develop a wider vocabulary and improve my skills in proofreading and editing so that my writing would be continue to be enhanced and that my words would not be redundant.

Enhancing the Competitive Strategy Bank Muscat SAOG Assignment

Enhancing the Competitive Strategy Bank Muscat SAOG - Assignment Example This service should come hand in hand with liaising with other companies such as the utility companies to ensure that their bills can be paid through the bank for the customers in the bank. This will consequently increase the number of customers and also increase the revenues collected since the customers will be transacting at a fee. The bank is looking at going global in order to have the muscle and the ability to fight off any economic downturns that may face the country in the long-run. The markets in the country are volatile meaning that the bank is located in an economy that may change making it unstable. Backing the bank’s capital base and ensuring that the country cannot be worst hit by the economic or political downturns in the country can only be changed by increasing the number of branches outside the country (Bank Muscat, 2014). The bank therefore needs to assess the markets and spot the growing markets in order to establish branches in countries that have the best returns. The branches can be located in the neighboring countries such as Pakistan and India that are not too far away and in the process control the banking sector in the region through increasing their branches in the region further (Jeffreys, 2012). Targeting premier customer in the developed and developing countries such as Malay sia, China and Brazil where there is available markets for the service is also critical. The Bank should ensure that it does not back its assets in only a single area but back the assets through a stream of countries from all over the world and as a result gain the required capital base from abroad that cannot be affected by the Oman economy (Claessens and Van, 2007). The country may also consider merging with banks in the different countries that they wish to invest and ensure that the banks have a good reputation in order to ensure that the citizens of the countries believe in the bank. Psychological Research Report on Memory Essay -- essays research paper

ABSTRACT How is memory encoded and what methods can lead to greater recall? There have been many different models suggested for human memory and many different attempts at defining a specific method of encoding that will lead to greater recall. In this experiment subjects are asked to do a semantic task on a word related to them and an orthographic task in which they analyze the letter in the word. The results of the experiment indicate that the words which where encoded semantically and are related to the self have greater recall. INTRODUCTION In the last half century several theories have emerged with regard to the best model for human memory. In each of these models there was a specific way to help people recall words and images. The first model of memory is the short term and long term memory. In this model information is temporarily stored in the short term memory. Over here it is easily and quickly recalled and it can stay in short term memory and be recalled if the person rehearses it. When information leaves short term memory it goes into long term memory. While long term memory has a much larger storage capacity it is harder to recall items from long term memory. It has been proposed that items from long term memory are recalled by having large part of it placed in short term memory where it is examined to see if it has the necessary piece of information. If it doesn’t then either the person gives up on recalling it or takes another large set of information from long-term memory to examine. (Atkinso n & Sciffrin 1971). However this multi-store view of memory has not provided a strong enough explanation for scientists. Another theoretical view of memory is the idea that memory is based on depth of proce... ...nitially rehearsed by recognition could have greater recall. An example would if this experiment asked subjects to again find a letter in a word if the word appeared before. It has also been shown in this experiment that words that are related to oneself can lead to greater recall. However this experiment has not tested whether words related to oneself have a greater recall then other words that are encoded semantically since the other grouping of words were not semantically encoded. Economic development in low income countries Essay

It is no secret that despite the breakthroughs in international economic dynamics, development is still elusive to some of the world’s poorer countries. However, current trends indicate that some of these low income nations are actually faring much better than others. Countries like China, Vietnam, and India might be well on their way to economic prosperity. The purpose of this paper is to identify the current aspects that affect economic progress and identify existing trends within those aspects. This paper gauges the sensitivity of low income countries to such trends. In particular, this paper discusses the aspects of globalization and education; the parts that each of these aspects play in determining the economic fate of low income countries. In the continuing rise of globalization, lines that have previously separated nations are now being blurred. The advent of free trade a few decades passed has increased not only economic, but cultural interactions among countries worldwide. These developments preview a globalized perspective of the economy, where the concept of nation as an economic barrier because of tariffs and trade regulations may no longer apply. If we look at how low income countries fare in the light of a globalizing world market, there are varied effects that can be observed. The influx of multinational corporations into countries of the third world brought about by the prospect of more affordable labor boosts employment rates and strengthens these countries’ current economic standing. Countries like India, Vietnam, and the Philippines currently thrive on jobs provided by various outsourcing corporations from the United States and Europe. On the other hand, some countries tend to suffer trade abuse from countries with stronger markets when it comes to the lowering of trade barriers. Without trade barriers on foreign products, the local companies of poorer countries find it much harder to compete with their foreign counterparts. The larger companies obviously have greater capital and can afford to lower prices much more than local smaller companies. On the other hand despite the lowering of tariffs in the countries where larger companies are based, smaller companies from other countries who want to enter into those markets still have a hard time. A good example of this can be seen in the case of China and the Philippines. China’s booming economy exported goods worth over $18. 6 million into the Philippines in 2005 while the Philippines was only able to export $2. 3 million (Rogers, 2006). Clearly, smaller companies in the Philippines are sorely outclassed by Chinese capital and cheap labor. China has is in fact making remarkable market headway in the international arena despite the prevailing low average income per annum of U. S. $2,040. With regards to direct investment, smaller companies yet find themselves outgunned once more by their larger competitors. Direct investment allows large companies to infiltrate chap labor markets where smaller companies operate. They are able to offer higher wages to workers from smaller companies owing largely to wide differences in capital which is boosted more by differences in foreign currencies. On the other hand, smaller companies neither have the ability nor the need to expand their workforce and operations into other countries. Foreign direct investment is not only useless to them, but it also creates an avenue for their workers to be pirated by larger foreign companies. Therefore it can be concluded that globalization is value neutral when it comes improving the economy of low income countries. Both India and the Philippines experienced long colonized rule which resulted to staggering economies in both cases. Yet after their freedom from their respective conquerors, the economics as well as other aspects of advancement in either country took different turns. Economically, India lagged behind the Philippines for many years proceeding World War II, but India’s investment in education eventually paid off. The Indian government sets aside as much as 55% of the national budget for the development of basic and tertiary education from since 1968 (Basham, 2005). The Philippines also allocates considerable budget in education but rampant corruption in the country prevents any authentic development from occurring. As a result, the country fared consistently low in successive Trends in Mathematics and Science Studies examinations conducted in 1999 and 2004 (Basham, 2005). The trends brought about by education reflect the quality of labor that a country has to offer and consequentially, the strength of its economy. While outsourcing western companies still obtain services from the Philippines for their call centers and medical transcription needs, they go to India for specialized and technological professional services. Therefore it can be concluded that advances in education equate to advances in a country’s economy. It also holds true that countries that make considerable genuine investments in their education system develop a citizenry that fares relatively better in the international job market than countries who do not. In conclusion, there are indeed varying rates of economic development present in low income countries. These rates are partly dictated by trends in globalization and in education. It is imperative for less developed countries to take heed of their neighboring countries’ actions and follow suit, or risk being left behind by a rapidly evolving world economy.

He had a unique style of writing for his time that drew a lot of readers to his bodies of work. In 1867 Twain took a cruise across the Mediterranean and wrote about humors that he saw and encountered on his cruise for his newspaper. However he really had a goal of making a book out of the trip. The book that came from the trip was The Innocents Abroad and it became a best-seller immedietly. Soon after Twain married 24 year old Olvia Langdon and settled in Buffalo. He felt like mos t of the country was ran through a variety of different aspects in the east coast, so that is the reason him and his wife settle in the east. Twain and Langdon also had 4 kids. Mark Twains The Adventures of Tom Sawyer published in 1876. Not long after he began writing was the sequel to that which was Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It was said that writing these stories freed him of the culture in which he lived in and embraced. Although it took years for Twain to write them, those two especially along with many more stories from Twain have become incredible influences on American Literature, and will be forever. Mark Twain, has contributed a lot to American society through his childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and literary influence. Twain to me changed writing forever, based on his background, where he came from, and his styles of writing. Learning about Twain has taught me to keep working towards what you want no matter what your circumstances are. He went from living a great life, to broke, to living an even greater life than before. Twain no matter what his circumstances were gave it his all. Its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog.

The Atrocities and Liberation of Concentration Camps

The Atrocities and Liberation of Concentration Camps If you combine sadistic Nazi soldiers, a license to kill, and twenty-six million people whom they took their aggression out on, you have the Holocaust. From torture to murder, the concentration camp prisoners experienced almost every despicably, inhumane act one can imagine. Hitler s Nazis will never be able to justify this ultimate example of cruelty and unfairness. Those who lived, for many had died because they weren t able to stand or became unconscious, were given wool rags to wear and wooden sandals that caused inflammation. Paper clothing that the deportees had made was taken, and some had resorted to trading in their food for clothing, only to have it confiscated shortly afterward (Whissen 5-13). Housing assignments for the prisoners were then issued. The prisoners barracks, which were designed to house half the people who were stuffed into them, were filthy and full of vermin, as one of the women assigned to them stated: When we arrived, the sleeping accommodations appeared to be quite nice; the beds had been neatly made, and on each straw mattress there was a small, blue-white coverlet that was almost pretty.
